Interview with DIMA a success!!! August 1, 2008

Filed under: Blogroll — stayfunny @ 5:59 pm

Yesterday, July 31, we had an interview with the Department of Immigration Australia (DIMA) for our spouse visa application.  We have been waiting for ages for this day.  We’ve spent endless hours reading the partner migration booklet and assessing and re-assessing all the documents we have.

The day before, I checked the documents I have with the department’s requirements checklist to check (yet again… some of you know how OC I can get sometimes…:P) whether I have all that I can provide.

Before we left, Max said, “I hope this is the big interview.”  Then I suddenly went… “Oh… hmmm… I don’t know…”  ha ha ha  Try as I might to rack my brain and remember to what the lady told me over the phone when I scheduled for the appointment, I couldn’t remember!

On the way there, I looked over the requirement checklist (again!!!) and saw that it did indeed say quite clearly that both of us needs to be there on the appointed date.  Whew!  ha ha  For awhile there I thought my hubby left work early for nothing…

Anyhow… we waited for about 30 minutes then we were called in.  We didn’t really know what to expect but all we know is that we have done our best with the paperwork.

After about 2 hours of sitting there and going through all the documents, with a few questions here and there, and as well as my hubby having to write a written statement of our relationship on the spot (of which he did really well), the lady told us that yes, we will be given our spousal visa, that there will be no more interviews…provided that I submit the police clearance from Indonesia, that’s another story.

You see, they want you to provide police clearance from any country that you have lived in for more than 12 months… and I was in Jakarta for 2 years.  Now, I had gotten the papers to submit to the Indonesian Embassy ages ago but I can’t send it out because I don’t have the fingerprints that they need – which links to the Australian Federal Police (AFP).  Here in Perth, only they are allowed to do any fingerprinting.  But when you do call them, you’ll find that they are so backlogged that they can only give you an appointment 2 months down the line.

I got my fingerprints done finally on July 30, a day before our interview with DIMA and sent out the papers to the Indonesian Embassy.  I pray that the papers gets done as quickly as possible so that we can finally really celebrate!  🙂

If anyone needs information on Australian visas, please feel free to send me your questions and I’ll do my best to help you out!  I don’t claim to be an expert but at least I can share my experience with you.  🙂
